About Us
The Centre for Community Actions for Peace and Development (CCAPAD) located in Jos, Plateau State, is a Non-Governmental, Non-profit-making Organization established in 2010 and officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC/IT NO 97004) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2016. One year later, CCAPAD became fully registered with the American Data and Universal Numbering System, with a unique DUNS identification number 561295835 as well as the European Union Aid PADOR I.D Number: NG – 2020 – DSQ – 2708430988.
Retrospectively, CCAPAD was conceived in 2004 at the peak of the series of crises that intensely engulfed Jos North and most parts of the Plateau leading to colossal loss of lives, destruction of properties and polarization of settlements along religious and tribal sentiments.
Plateau State which is located in the North Central geo-political zone of Nigeria, with about 3.2 million people (according to the 2006 census figures) has 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and is often described as a miniature Nigeria with over 40 indigenous ethnic groups. It served as a commercial hub to all other ethnic groups across Nigeria during the mining era, hence the current presence of several ethnic groups in the State. It also has large number of farmers who are engaged in subsistence agriculture as well as grazing pastoralist. Jos North LGA is the headquarters of the State.
Since 1994, Plateau has experienced deadly recurrent violence, generally along religious and ethnic/political lines and between pastoralists and farmers with manifestation of extensive violent conflicts in 2001, 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2011.
As for the founder and Chief Executive Officer of CCAPAD, Mr. Ahmed Salihu whose Peace and Development work with other organizations on different projects and different capacities availed him of the experiences, gaps and complexities, genuine impact and transformation drive of the many organizations and actors who were intervening on diverse fronts and various locations of the State, the dream of designing an all-inclusive bridge-building and grass roots-evolving approach to intervening on the conflicts and responding in other states of the country that were seemingly on the brink of the ‘Plateau Experience’ was therefore nurtured till 2009, when CCAPAD began skeletal operations, formation of structures and intermediate interventions across communities.
Having been accepted by the communities, encouraged by the stakeholders, and painstakingly registered with the relevant Agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria, CCAPAD officially launched its new office manned with newly employed staff and newly introduced projects in 2016.
CCAPAD, interfaith by nature and approach, is dignified to serve as a connecting point and platform for all the flash point Community Development Associations (CDAs) to peculiarly table their issues and collectively address them under the leadership and coordination of the organization.
Amongst several other achievements that accrued from Intervening on different thematic areas in different States of Nigeria, CCAPAD is distinguished as the Organization that has the single largest Data Bank of all the local Community Development Associations of the all-important Jos North, the State Capital of the Plateau.
